Layered Defense, Enhanced Security: IAMD Solutions for an Evolving Battlespace
As the world navigates an increasingly complex battlespace, our customers demand proven and reliable defense solutions. The importance of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) capabilities cannot be overstated. At Lockheed Martin, our IAMD solutions offer global deterrence and combat-proven technologies that protect lives, safeguard the homeland and keep our troops ahead of the next threat.
Lockheed Martin’s continuous innovation and investment in defense solutions plays a key role in ensuring our customers are prepared for today's rapidly changing threat environment. Our fielded and proven Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) interceptors have demonstrated their capability and readiness against next-generation threats, both through flight tests and in real-world combat environments.
Protecting Critical Infrastructure through Integrated Defense
PAC-3 and THAAD are integral components of globally deployed missile defense weapon systems, protecting forward forces and critical infrastructure every day. These systems are part of a networked architecture designed to work seamlessly together, providing a layered defense capability that can detect, track and engage threats. By integrating these systems into a joint and multi-domain architecture, we can ensure that our customers have the overmatch required to deter threats and protect lives.
Lockheed Martin continues to evolve IAMD capabilities to the next level. Most recently, PAC-3 MSE demonstrated enhanced performance against an advanced threat in a PATRIOT system flight test at White Sands Missile Range in June. The flight test validated software and seeker upgrades that evolve the interceptor’s capabilities against complex threats.
PAC-3 MSE has also proven integration with the Integrated Battle Command System, the U.S. Army’s next-generation battle command platform. Integrating PAC-3 with new, advanced systems to deliver next-generation deterrence capability is a critical piece of the U.S. Army’s modernization strategy.
By harnessing digital technologies to network platforms together, Lockheed Martin is increasing the effectiveness and deterrent value of defense solutions for our customers, ensuring they have the technology needed to stay ahead in an evolving threat environment — this is 21st Century Security® in action.
In 2022, in response to a Joint Emergent Operational Need (JEON) identified by the U.S. Army, Lockheed Martin proved successful integration of the PAC-3 MSE with the THAAD Weapon System. Leading up to this test, Lockheed Martin successfully delivered additional capabilities to the U.S. Army: THAAD Remote Launcher and Patriot Launch-On-Remote.

The THAAD Weapon System is used to fire two PAC-3 MSEs to intercept a live target.
Delivering Combat-Proven Innovations for a Complex World
Lockheed Martin’s IAMD capabilities are designed to be adaptable, scalable and integrated, ensuring that our customers can respond quickly and effectively to changing circumstances. Whether it's enhancing the performance of existing systems or developing new technologies to address emerging threats, we are dedicated to providing the solutions that our customers need to succeed.
With its 100% flight test intercept rate, flexible deployments, and the ability to rapidly replace and reload, the THAAD Weapon System is a key component of any ballistic missile defense system. PAC-3's advanced Hit-to-Kill technology, demonstrated effectiveness in protecting critical assets, proven performance in combat, and continued evolution are driving interest in this capability across the globe.
As we look to the future, it's clear that the battlespace will continue to evolve, with new threats and challenges emerging every day. In a world where preserving peace requires continuous innovation and investment in combat-proven technologies, Lockheed Martin is delivering an integrated, layered and connected air and missile defense capability.
As we move forward, we will continue to enhance and adapt our IAMD capabilities, like THAAD and PAC-3, ensuring that our customers have the overmatch they need to succeed in a complex and evolving battlespace.
