Spain

Lockheed Martin established a wholly owned subsidiary in Spain, Lockheed Martin España S.A. After more than ten years in Spain, Lockheed Martin España continues to grow its relationships with Spanish industry and together pursue new opportunities in global markets.

Air Force Programs
Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules transport and P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft have been in service with the Spanish Air Force for many years. Other Lockheed Martin systems in service with the Spanish Air Force include Laser Guided Training Rounds, Laser Guided Bomb kits and engineering support service for the P-3.
Lockheed Martin, working with prime contractor EADS-CASA in support of the Spanish Air Force MALOG, modernized the avionics of the C-130 fleet and performed structural analysis for the Spanish P-3s.

Navy Programs
Lockheed Martin is the technology partner of Navantia to develop an integrated combat system for the Spanish Armada’s S-80 diesel electric submarines. The combat system is based on U.S. Navy open architecture work and consists of a command and control module, sonar and weapons systems interfaces.  Lockheed Martin will team with Navantia in selling this submarine and combat system to international customers.

Lockheed Martin supplies the Spanish Navy’s four new F-100 class frigates with the Aegis combat system, SPY-1D radar and Mk 41 Vertical Launch System. Most recently Lockheed Martin was selected to provide the evolved Aegis Combat System for the second series F-105 frigate. A Lockheed Martin team of engineers then helped Navantia develop an indigenous combat system: SCOMBA.

Lockheed Martin España is an equal partner of the SIMANT joint venture with Indra to provide lifetime support for the Spanish F-100 frigates.

As a result of the collaboration on the Aegis F-100, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense chose the Navantia-Lockheed Martin team to provide the Royal Norwegian Navy with five new frigates also equipped with the Aegis combat system.
The evolved Aegis Combat System (Baseline 7) has been also selected for the Australian AW destroyer program, based on Navantia’s F-105 frigate.

UYK-43 computers are a key element of the combat system of the Spanish aircraft carrier Principe de Asturias. Santa María class frigates also operate with Lockheed Martin engine controls and the Lockheed Martin SQR-19 towed array sonar.
Navantia’s Dorna Gun System was selected as the baseline for Lockheed Martin’s Littoral Combat Ship program. Navantia, along with Indra and Rymsa, are important suppliers to Lockheed Martin on its Aegis programs in the United States, Japan, Korea, Norway and Australia.

Lockheed Martin works closely with shipbuilder Navantia and other Spanish industrial partners such as Indra, Sainsel and Rymsa on the F-100/F-105 programs

Spanish NAVAIR Partnerships
The Spanish Navy Air Arm has relied on the SH-60B LAMPS Mk III helicopter to protect the fleet from submarine threats for over 10 years. Tecnobit was awarded a contract to supply racks and cables to Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Navy’s SH-60R LAMPS program.

In support of the Spanish Navy’s AV-8B+ Harrier jets, Lockheed Martin collaborated with prime contractor Indra for the supply of modern, integrated test equipment based on the U.S. Navy’s Consolidated Automated Support System (CASS).

Homeland Security Partnership
EADS-CASA was selected by Lockheed Martin to supply its CN-235 Aircraft for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Maritime Patrol Aircraft (HC-144A) as part of the Deepwater program.

Space Systems Partnership
Lockheed Martin has supported the development of the Spanish telecommunications industry through the successful launches of the Hispasat 1C and Hispasat D satellites. Both satellites were placed into geosynchronous orbit by Lockheed Martin Atlas II AS rockets, build by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. A year later the Company was selected to launch the new Hispasat Amazonas satellite aboard a Proton/ Breeze M rocket.

EADS-CASA Space Division was selected to supply the Inter-Stage Adapters and is being qualified for other composite structures for the U.S. Air Force’s Atlas V rocket.
